Solar Drip Irrigation Systems

Today, Fatu talked about her work on the Jorit project over summer 2009. She also addressed ways that the well project needs to be improved during the summer of next year. Would there be a way to improve the well project by drilling deeper wells, and then implementing a solar-powered water pump to ensure that there is a reliable source of water consistently? I did a little research and saw that the Solar Electric Light Fund has a project up that may be relevant reading for us:

Maybe this is something we can discuss at a future meeting! Since they want to drill these wells in December 2009, if we want to throw a fundraiser for an organization (in addition to our own fundraisers for Jorit), they would be a good recipient? We could definitely bring a SELF person to campus to talk about the different projects/experiences... What does everyone else think?

I hope everyone is having a good weekend! See you all on Thursday!

Yours in sustainable development,
Eden

Strategy Session and Upcoming Elections

Look out for the strategy session coming up this Saturday, 27 September. We are holding it at 1.30pm somewhere in Frist. I will put an update up as soon as I can.

We're meeting at Forbes for an informal brunch instead. 12pm if you can make it. :)

We have several officer positions open in PADI. I will announce them on Saturday when we meet. So, think about whether you would like to run for one of them! Our elections will be held in a week from the strategy session.

Please contribute to what you think about PADI's goals and how you'd like to participate in the coming year. Fill in this form pretty-please!

Also, here is another form for the meeting times for the fall term.

I-ni-cheh. (Thank you, as we say in Mali.)

We are online!

Here's the deal. We are going to keep it nice and simple and use a blog format to run the website. You'll find all the important information on the organisation up there in the 'Pages'. At the same time, all the events updates and news blurbs will be posted here in the blog. Please join in the discussion and make http://padinitiative.org/ one of your weekly reads.

See you later!

Student Activities Fair + Eat and Meet

Hey there!

Shout-out to Fatu, Pauline and Hassen for coming down to the activities fair and manning the table for interested students! We had more than 50 people sign-up to the mailing list so far (including those from the Pace Center Reflections on Service event).

After the craziness of the fair, we settled down in the quietness of the Whitman Semi-Private Dining Room for our little Eat and Meet session on Friday. A small group of freshmen and upperclassmen dropped by to share their own experiences and interests, and to hear what PADI is all about. Hassen talked about the Jorit Water Project in Ethiopia this summer, while I shared about our plans for the coming year. Stay tuned!
