About
PADI was founded in the spring of 2008 by students desiring to impact the world around them. Well-aware of the challenges faced by Africa - problems that hit close to home for some members - these students were determined to put into action Princeton's unofficial motto, "Princeton in the nation's service and in the service of all nations." In short, they started engaging the Princeton community with sustainable development challenges and projects in Africa. Chemistry major Fatu Conteh '10 was the founder of PADI.
Today, PADI has members from a variety of majors and cultural backgrounds. We create and have run a smorgasbord of events; African cultural presentations, a malaria awareness campaign, a book drive for African schools, 5k run, Senegalese food study break... the list goes on. In summer 2009, we started to build five water pumps in Jorit, Ethiopia thanks to a grant from the Kathryn W. Davis 100 Projects for Peace fund!
For 2010-2011, we are planning to support a social enterprise which supports and orphanage, education and job training for HIV-affected orphans in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
